Shooting Disciplines at the West Wight Club
The West Wight Club offers a diverse range of target‑shooting disciplines suitable for beginners, developing shooters, and experienced competitors alike. Members have access to club‑owned rifles and airguns, ensuring everyone can participate fully from day one.
Precision Airgun Shooting
This discipline uses high‑quality 4.5 mm (.177) single‑shot airguns, covering both rifle and pistol categories. Precision airgun shooting develops core skills such as breathing control, stance, sight alignment, and repeatable technique, making it an excellent foundation for all other shooting sports. As a member, you will have access to a suitable club air rifle or air pistol for training and competition.
Precision .22 Rifle Shooting
This discipline includes both Prone Rifle and Benchrest formats, each focused on accuracy, stability, and consistent technique. Shooters use .22 LR rimfire rifles designed for precision target work, typically fired at fixed distances under structured competition rules. As a member, you will be loaned an appropriate club precision rifle, allowing you to train and compete without needing your own equipment.
Sporting Rifle .22 Rimfire
Sporting Rifle : A highly popular discipline focused on positional shooting (usually standing) at static targets at distances like 20 yards or 25 metres, emphasizing physical stability and fundamental mechanics.
Black Powder Competition Shooting
This is a historic and highly meticulous discipline where marksmen compete using muzzleloaders and early cartridge firearms powered exclusively by traditional black powder or approved substitutes.
Regular Club Competitions
